My latest shopping find

Written by Maja on March 24th, 2009

.. is the American Apparel Circle Scarf. I love it. It’s huge, soft, and the color is really really nice (Tri-evergreen – no longer available on the site, it seems). I ordered it about a week ago, and It was delivered to me yesterday by a very nice UPS man. Don’t you love it when they bring stuff to your door?

There we go. A big bundle of green snuggly warm goodness. I’m sold!

Photobucket

Here’s the actual size. It’s huge, and could easily double as a blanket. It’s really light-weight though, don’t let the size fool you!

Now, on the AA site I found this handy guide to my scarf. You know your scarf is fancy when you need a guide to use it. There’s also little videos, in case just looking at the picture didn’t explain the process well enough for you. It’s fool-proof!

Photobucket

Amazing, huh? Hipster-girl here makes it all look so easy. In fact: easy enough for me to try!

#1: The “basic scarf”

Photobucket

So far so good. I’ve not sprained, bruised or dislocated anything while attempting this. But, it looks a bit silly. Like one of those baby-carrying harnesses. And it does not provide warmth. This does not make sense to me.

#2: “The doubled scarf”

Photobucket

Now we’re talking! My neck is warm! Scarf, you have completed your mission. Pat yourself on the back.

#3: the “doubled scarf with hood”

Photobucket

Yeah, this doesn’t feel silly at all. Maybe if I sit up more regally?

Photobucket

No, still pretty silly. I feel this kind of thing should only be attempted if you’re in the cast of “the Dynasty”.

#4: the “scarf with hood”

Photobucket

Yeah, so, uh.. no.

#5: The “hooded shawl”

Photobucket

AA, just stop it. Now you’re just making fun of us. Honestly. I do not want stuff on my head. There’s a reason they sell beanies.

#6: the “shawl”

Photobucket

Much better. This one actually makes sense. I have a habit of always insisting that it’s 10 degrees warmer than it actually is, so this option is good for those days when I’m in class wearing short sleeves in January.

#7: The “capelet”

Photobucket

Also approved. Hooray!

#8: The “figure 8 top”

Photobucket

This is where it starts to seriously go downhill. Come on, AA. Wut? No. Just no. Tying a scarf around your breasts does not equal a top. It does, however, equal a peep show the second you get even the slightest breeze!

#9: The “layered belted mini”

Photobucket

Yeah, this makes sense. If I suddenly find myself wishing I was 15 pounds heavier.

#10: the “Layered swinging mini”

Photobucket

You know when you step out of the shower with a towel wrapped around you? Would you walk around like that in public? I thought not.

#11: The “layered knee-length skirt”

Photobucket

I tried..

Photobucket

I really did.

#12: The “one-shouldered dress”

Photobucket

Toga! Toga! Toga! Toga!

#13: The “Head wrap”

I didn’t even attempt this one. I have my limits!

Bottom line: It’s just as functional as any other scarf you already own. I’m pretty sure that my non-circular scarves can also be turned into shawls, hoods, and togas. They just don’t claim to do so because it goes without saying. But: it’s huge and soft and light and nice and a good buy nonetheless :)

I should probably get back to my paper now. Hey, look at that, 40 minutes till deadline..

Hahahahaha… #4 and #10 was my favourites! You should definitely go like that in public ^^

  2. Maja says:

I know, right? I quite like #5 as well, it’s very Virgin Mary ;)

Argh koffor fins d ikkje AA i norge? *sob* Bra for pengboka, men lell..

I like #6, men i bruke å ha motsatt problem: Når i va i canada tok d me ca to måna å lære at man ikkje treng å ha med jakke eller genser ut når d e 30 grader.

ps I syns vi ska gjeninføre togaen i

i’m glad SOMEONE finally recognizes the goofy side of aa .. and their crazy suggestions. my best friend made me a circle scarf for christmas, and i generally stick with #2.

Line: i veit!

Copperoranges: I think I have to consider myself a fan of the #2 also, as well as the noon-hooded capes :) I think I’ll buy a skirt from them next, I’m sure they will suggest that I should turn it into a top, handbag, purse and a potholder!

Wow! I don’t think I’m good enough at origami to handle this.

  7. Maja says:

Origami, now that’s something I haven’t done in a while! I used to be able to fold a pretty good frog!

Your jewelry is gorgeous, by the way. I might have to blogstalk you now.

Tusen takk! Det er rart hvor kreativ man blir når man egentlig skal gjøre noe annet :P

You managed to create so many different looks, I doubt I could do more than number 2 and 3. May I ask where did you order it? I’ve never found aa here, and not sure about an european website that ships to dk.

  11. Maja says:

http://store.americanapparel.eu/ is the EU version of the AA site, I think they ship from Germany :)

    Thank you:-)
