Why I should never bake

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

When Marius and four of his colleagues helped us move last Tuesday, I promised myself one thing. I should thank them properly. Words were not enough, oh no! I should thank them in the shape of cupcakes. Pink cupcakes. With hearts on them. Of course! Big burly men need pink cupcakes, and now was the time to make sure they got some. So tonight, while Marius assembled his umpteenth piece of Ikea furniture, I put on my apron and set to work. I emptied bags and mixed in water. I got out the special muffin cups with roses on them. I made pink frosting. In my head, I was making this:

While in reality.. Oh god, I can’t believe I’m showing you this:

Now, I can explain the burned bits. It’s the first time I’m using the oven in this apartment, and it seems to get a bit over-excited. I used to correct temperature, darn it! The wonky shape, however.. That one I can’t explain. One minute they looked fine, the next there had been formed some kind of batter-volcano in each muffin, resulting in wonky growths. Which again explains the uneven frosting-application.

I am going to be the laughingstock of big burly men tomorrow.

Update from moverville

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Hello again! The last few days have been crazy. Crazy!

On Tuesday we moved in all our stuff into the new apartment. We were probably done at around 9pm and ended up eating Chinese take-away on the bedroom floor because we hadn’t had time to buy groceries. The apartment was freezing cold, so we slept fully dressed. We didn’t get to do any unpacking, but we did decide on where to put things, at least. State of mind: Bliss.

Yesterday we cleaned the old apartment top to bottom, which took all night. Still no time to unpack. State of mind: Bliss + loopy from all the detergents.

Today we’ve been at Ikea all day while spending a small fortune (Ok, teensy weensy fortune, this is Ikea after all!) on some new furniture and other necessities. So bottom line is – we still haven’t had time to unpack. And we won’t get to do it tomorrow, because tomorrow I work late. Oh, and did I mention our bed didn’t fit at all? It was too big to even fit up the stairs leading up to our apartment! So we gave away the bed, and are getting a new one tomorrow. We’ve been sleeping on the floor until now! Still happy :)

This is all we’ve had time to unpack so far: The sofa, the laptops, and Alfred the unkept bonzai tree. The bare necessities. So please be patient – I can’t wait to show you photos of the place, I just want it to be all set before I do ;)

I have to tell you, Marius and I have surprisingly similar tastes in decorating, and we’ve agreed on pretty much every placement, color and new piece of furniture so far. I can’t wait for Saturday, I’m going to stay inside and unpack and take it easy all weekend. Then I will bore you all with a post filled with new curtains, bedside tables and closet placements ;)

We’ve got the keys! Moving in tomorrow!!

Hot Gossip

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Today was harsh. Work on a Saturday, minus 5 degrees celcius outside, and it was cold inside at work as well. And I was hungry all day because of lack of proper breakfast. Okay, it wasn’t harsh at all, I’ve had three days off after all, and the lack of breakfast was made up for by eating chocolate eggs (in February! Can you believe it?!). However,  please don’t disregard the whine, because the cold and the hunger was my excuse to treat myself to a little something at MAC. A new lipstick!

Now, I’ve always been a lip gloss girl through and through. Whenever I try to wear lipstick, I somehow end up with a perfectly colored upper lip and a completely colorless bottom lip within minutes. But it’s cold and windy outside, and desperate times call for desperate measures. Wind means goopy lipgloss in my hair, and the cold turns my favorite lipgloss (Lancôme’s Juicy Tubes) frosty. No joke, after some minutes outside it looks like something Ice Princess Barbie would wear. So, it was time to turn to lip stick. I love MAC, I’ve never disliked anything I’ve bought from MAC, so I basically showed up at MAC and went “HAI, TELL ME WHAT TO BUY!“. And it worked!

Lip stick feels so deliciously grown-up. You never see teenyboppers with a lip stick in their hand. The name of the shade? Hot Gossip! For me it’s a perfect everyday shade :)

In other news, I’ve been boxed in and might not find my way out of the apartment. If I don’t show up for work on Monday, send a search crew.

I <3 boxes

Friday, February 19th, 2010

I have to laugh a bit at my sporadic blogging.. No word in days, and then all of a sudden you get three posts in two days. There is, of course, an explanation for this – I’ve had Wednesday, Thursday and today off from work in order to pack and get everything ready for moving-day. I currently live among boxes. I’m surrounded by them!  It’s nice because I get to realize how much crap I own and throw it away, but I’d really like to just have the whole thing over with. We were supposed to move tomorrow, but something came in the way for our helpers, so it is now postponed until Monday. Le sigh, I were hoping we could sleep in the new apartment tomorrow night! Oh well. The upside is that I work late on Monday and thus can’t participate in the carrying of heavy boxes ;)

BAM, morningface!

I’m really starting to get used to the new hair now. Yesterday I discovered  how I can now wear pigtails without looking like I’m about to star in porn. Hooray!

Okay, that’s all I’ve got right now. I haven’t had breakfast yet, and today is the day where I get to wrap all our glass and plates and things individually in newspaper. Oprah is on in ten minutes, so I guess I’ll multi task!
