Poison of choice

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Today was rough. Work has been stressful to the point where I think my shoulders might be permanently attached to my ears, and I caught myself  vigorously massaging my temples several times during the course of the day – this is how you know I’m dealing with a truly special breed of person. On my way home I could think of one thing and one thing only, and that is how gloriously wonderful it would be to get greasy greasy takeout and play World of Warcraft.

So we did.

Word of Warcarft truly is my poison of choice – I’ve been playing since the closed beta testing and have loved every minute of it. I’ve experienced nerd-rage, gamer’s wrists, loss of social life, spent weeks hunting particularly pretty collections of pixels, and of course, made plenty of gorgeous friends along the way. As every other WoW-player I have thrown hissy hits, uninstalled the game and not touched it for months, only to come lurching back quietly like the weaklings that we truly are. “I’ve had it, I quit!” is a yearly sentence uttered amongst my WoW-playing friends. “Have fun, see you again in a few months!” is the standard reply. It rarely fails.

Now, I’m not going to elaborate further on my in-game escapades, seeing as I know who reads my blog and I know that most of you are probably not understanding this at all, but this is my blog darn it, and tonight I’m being a nerd. So there!

(Obligatory bucket list of characters that I have played or am still playing)

Banished to the book shelf

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Happy Friday-day everyone! This day could really not crawl by fast enough, but work ended eventually and I got to plant by butt firmly in the sofa corner with a bottle of nail polish. Hey now, don’t judge, we all have our vices – I hardly ever go out, so I get polishes instead. My vanity AND my liver thanks me for than one! Marius and I are going to spend the night stuffing our faces and watching a movie, as soon as we can decide on which one to pick. We’re stuck between Watchmen and Star Trek right now, but who knows where we’ll end up. Marius hung up two brand new shelves from Ikea above his desk the other day, and I asked him if they’d become our new DVD shelves. “No”, he replied. “Those are for the Blurays only”. See what I’ve got to deal with? I’m not allowed to bring home DVDs anymore! And the DVDs we already own are banished to the book shelf.  I think I might smuggle them over to the Bluray-shelves when he looks the other way.

Ok, polish time! The one I got yesterday was IsaDora’s #700 “Bel Air Blue”, and I’ve got all kinds of love for it, although it’s a bit too goopy for my taste. I need to get myself some nail polish thinner.

Ok, the boyfriend is showing signs of movie-readiness now, so I have to press publish. Enjoy your Friday! :)

P.S: I made a fan page on facebook! Clicky if you want to spread the love!

The Breakup

Monday, July 12th, 2010

And that, my friends, is pretty much my perfect evening right there. Tea, Elle, laptop.

Also, I ended a three and a half year old relationship today. I’ve been putting it off for quite some time, but I just couldn’t keep it up any longer. Like ripping a band-aid, these things are often better to do quick and painful, because they’ll never really be pain free. I dreaded it, it was awkward, but it’s done now, and there’s no turning back.

I ended my gym membership.

Wink!

I don’t know if I told you, but I won a one year free membership at a different gym through my job, and seeing how it’ll save me 5000kr in that one year, there wasn’t really much to think about. So by the end of summer, I’m switching gyms. Eep! I’ve been a member at this one ever since I was a pale, doughy teenager who had never worked out voluntarily a day in her life. The description above is not so wrong, really – it felt a bit like a breakup! They’ve seen me at my sweatiest, gnarliest and most hopeless – from helpless flailing at my first (and last) step class, to nearly fainting at my first spin class, and all the way up to today where I never leave unless I’ve been there for at least an hour and a half, always leaving looking like an adrenaline-pumped tomato. We’ve been through a lot together.

SATS, it was fun while it lasted! We’ll always have the memories, yeah? ;)

11/365

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Today has been scorching hot. We rolled out of bed around noon, grabbed breakfast, and headed outside. Seeing as our friends Maren and Kenneth are on holiday, we borrowed their balcony for the day in order to catch some sun in private. I think that’s the only thing I miss about this apartment – a balcony! We sat there for a while, Marius with his crime book and me reading Harry Potter, until suddenly the sky closed up and it started to pour down. I managed to get this shot of the clouds before we left and went back home.

I really like this photo-a-day thing, I have to say. It feels good to do this little creative thing every day, to be able to publish posts more steadily, and to actually have something to show for. And that’s even though I’m ridiculously low on energy and really just ready for my holiday – this is me giving myself a virtual pat on the back, can you tell?

I’m going to sneak back into the sofa now – I only got a one-day weekend this week, so I’ll do my best to make the most of it!

June Summary

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Happiest thing that happened: Summer came! Finally! The first sun burn of the year, wearing shorts without pairing them with two pairs of tights, and reading books in the park. Pure bliss.

Worst thing that happened: Losing my beloved grandma Arna. I miss her dearly.

Biggest annoyance: As always, my complete and utter ability to not shop. I might have to make some drastic measures if I keep this up, a shopping detox if you will. I might have an idea or two up my sleeve..

Looking forward to: My three week long summer holiday. Last year my summer holiday lasted for 5 days. Saying it was insufficient would be the understatement of the century. I cannot wait to just lay around and do nothing! Oh, and the trip to Crete with my mom and sister will be heavenly, I just know it.

Favorite food: Anything green, lean and clean. Rice/pork/salad seems to be our favorite combo of late.

Pampering: Thanks to Maria, I’ve become addicted to nail polish. I’ve collected new high quality colors and coats, and learned some new techniques, too. And I bet I’m the only one at work who spends her breaks looking at nails blogs.

Favorite workout: June has been lazy. Combine a new work schedule with nice weather and a cut-down in group classes at the gym, and you’ve got the recipe for gym-hookie. But let’s be honest here – you’re never, ever going to look back at your life and wish that you spent more of those warm, sunny days inside a gym!

Favorite TV-show: True Blood. Season 3 has started, and I’m completely hooked.

Favorite thing: The glass nail file that my mom gave me. It has Swarovski crystals on it!

Favorite persons: My friends, my family, and the lovely people who keep coming back to my little corner of the web.

Discoveries: I can actually post something every day if I set my mind to it. Who knew?

Best buy: Opi Nail Envy nail strengthener, Guerlain Meteorites pearl powder, and the green polka dot skirt I bought second hand.

I’m such a sucker for beautiful packaging, but really, however silly it might sound, I’ve been lusting for this particular item of makeup since I was a teenager. The look of it, the smell, the fact that it could almost be mistaken for candy.. But the price always stopped me before. That’s one of the perks of growing up, I guess ;)

Worst buy: Nothing I can put my finger on!

Wish list: A calm, wonderful holiday, and a ton of beautiful photographs to remember it by when those three weeks are up.

Favorite blog: I’ve fallen in love with Galadarling.com this month.

Blog annoyance: My sporadic posting. But as you can see, I’ve taken measures to make this better. What’s the verdict, has it been an improvement?

Tips for myself: Breathe, keep your eyes open, and always, always bring your camera!

All in all: June has been a good month, but oh my, I feel like it only just started! What happened!?

Did you have a wonderful June? And do you have any fun plans in store for July? :)
