Now with 33% less wisdom tooth

Monday, March 8th, 2010

I guess it’s time to tell you a little about yesterday’s surgery now, huh! I showed up at the dentist’s office at 9am yesterday, very very nervous and with Marius by my side. The dentist’s office is really close to where we live, so I didn’t have a lot of time to be scared, thank goodness. I was greeted by a very friendly assistant before I got to meet the surgeon, who had an awesome name, the kind that really should be featured in some kind of nursery rhyme. I didn’t tell him this though, because I was afraid I’d offend him, and you really don’t want to offend someone who’s about to cut you with a scalpel.

The surgery itself went much better than anticipated – it was over in about thirty minutes, and the most painful thing was the shots of anesthetic that they gave me. They basically removed my tooth and – grossness warning! – removed, quote, “a lot of infected tissue” before they stitched me back up. Then they sent me on my merry (drowsy) way with a bag full of mouth wash, gauze and pain killers. Thank goodness for pain killers. I went to sleep as soon as I could, and lived off of pain killers and cold soup for the rest of the day. I couldn’t speak much, so I mimed things like “Get off the sofa, that’s my spot! I’m in pain, so I’ve got dibs!” and “Chocolate ice cream??” and Marius was a really good sport about it all. I can talk a little bit today, but am still living off soup, and have taken the day off work because of the remaining ouch.

In other news, the tease post didn’t get much attention (POUT!) so I’m posting a few more photos of the apartment.

February summary

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Oh yes, it’s that time of the month again – summary time! :)

Happiest thing that happened: Moving into a new apartment. It’s big and the location is great and the rent isn’t bad at all and I LOVE it! I also got to see one of my photos in print in a book.

Worst thing that happened: I don’t think anything bad has happened. It’s been a great month for me.

Biggest annoyance: All the crap we’ve accumulated over the years that we had to take with us to the new apartment. What were we thinking? And why, WHY did we ever buy the guitar hero drum kit?!

Looking forward to: Spring, as always! I really miss the sun.

Favorite food: I’ve eaten a lot of crap this month. A lot of chinese food. Yum!

Pampering: None. Lets put it this way – you do not want to see me in shorts right now. Just call me momma bear.

Favorite workout: None. I’ve been preoccupied with moving and packing and cleaning of old apartments and buying of furniture. Getting back in the saddle this week :)

Favorite TV-show: None, I don’t have TV at the new place. Pout! But Marius has been downloading Chuck and Better of Ted, and they’re surprisingly funny.

Favorite thing: Our neighbor’s unprotected wifi <3

Favorite persons: My parents. I wouldn’t be living in a new apartment right now if it weren’t for their help! Also, the four guys who helped us move.

Discoveries: I can’t bake muffins. Not even the just-add-water kind.

Best buy: A lot of new furniture. We have a dining table now! We’ve never had a dining table before!

Worst buy: None. I’ve been a good girl. All good buys :)

Wish list: I can’t mention a single thing, that would be kind of greedy. I am perfectly content right now.

Favorite blog: Unhappy hipsters.

Blog annoyance: I’ve been too busy to reply to a lot of comments. I promise I’ll get better!

Tips for myself: Start working out again. Seriously.

All in all: February has been fantastic, despite the fact that we’ve passed the second month straight of snow. Oh, and I fotgot to show you this little ebay find.. :)

Why I should never bake

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

When Marius and four of his colleagues helped us move last Tuesday, I promised myself one thing. I should thank them properly. Words were not enough, oh no! I should thank them in the shape of cupcakes. Pink cupcakes. With hearts on them. Of course! Big burly men need pink cupcakes, and now was the time to make sure they got some. So tonight, while Marius assembled his umpteenth piece of Ikea furniture, I put on my apron and set to work. I emptied bags and mixed in water. I got out the special muffin cups with roses on them. I made pink frosting. In my head, I was making this:

While in reality.. Oh god, I can’t believe I’m showing you this:

Now, I can explain the burned bits. It’s the first time I’m using the oven in this apartment, and it seems to get a bit over-excited. I used to correct temperature, darn it! The wonky shape, however.. That one I can’t explain. One minute they looked fine, the next there had been formed some kind of batter-volcano in each muffin, resulting in wonky growths. Which again explains the uneven frosting-application.

I am going to be the laughingstock of big burly men tomorrow.

I guess it’s time to post something other than google screenshots and youtube videos, huh :)

When I walked home from work yesterday, at 8pm, I felt like le poo. I’d been getting strange people on the phone all evening at work, strange beyond the usual head,-meet-desk slash facepalm variety. We’re talking notalwaysright.com levels of strange. So I trotted home through the ice and slush that covers the streets of Bergen these days, passing passing people on their way out to parties while trying not to glare at the girls in stilettos and mini dresses and thin thin pantyhose. I thought to myself, “I don’t care how hot you may look, it’s not worth getting your bits all frozen!”. Then I realized that I sound like I’m about 50 years old, and felt even crabbier.

It did get better, though. I met Maren and Kenneth on my way home, I got to whine a bit and I got a hug. Aw, friends! Then I got home, where Marius had prepared dinner for me. I had told him I wanted gratinated pasta, and he had completely misunderstood me. I’m not allowed to elaborate on this – I asked over and over again if I could please get to photograph his dish, but no luck. I still spent some good ten minutes laughing, though. Aw, boyfriends. I did give him an A+ for effort.

In other news, I finally received the moonstone ring I ordered! The photo doesn’t quite do it justice, so click here if you’re curious about what a moonstone looks like :)

My dirty mouse mat doesn’t quite help doing it justice, either.

I’ve also borrowed a Nokia n900 from work. As far as phones go it’s a giant and weighs a ton, but I love it. It can do everything and then some. I no longer want an iPhone. Let me put it this way – I haven’t owned a Nokia phone since my Nokia 3410. But now they’ve won me back over.

Ok, time to start the day! The landlord is coming over to inspect the apartment later today, so I need to do a bit of tidying :)

We got it!

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

We got the apartment! We got it!!

Actually, scratch that, bold and exclamation marks cannot fully express how happy I am right now. This, however, can:

Oh yes, that’s right. I went there. I made a sparklee and I’m not even ashamed!

I’ve been grinning all day. On the 20th, we’re moving in. The new place is 70 square meters (the one we live in now is 45) over two floors, 2nd and 3rd floor of a house smack in the middle of Bergen. It’s huge compared to what we have today, nice and open, and the rent is really not bad at all. We live right across the street from a grocery store (that is open on Sundays!), and our next door neighbor is an ecological bakery! I’ll live right next to everything, basically. And it’s ours for at least three years. Two bedrooms. Tons of space. I can’t wait to show you photos of it, but you’ll have to wait till we get to move in! AAH!

Now if you’ll excuse me, we’re making celebratory nachos tonight. Then I’ll be browsing decorating blogs for the rest of the evening! While grinning till my face hurts!
