May Summary

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Happiest thing that happened: Sunlight! Finally! I wake up at night these days wanting to growl at Marius for forgetting to switch off the bedroom lights, only to realize that it’s the sun. I love the midnight sun, I think it’s probably one of the things I’d miss the most if I ever moved abroad. Oh, and I saw the Flight of the Conchords live, that was also pretty great.

Worst thing that happened: I can’t think of a single thing. May was definitely a good one :)

Biggest annoyance: The fact that I’m utterly incapable of saving money for longer periods of time. But in my defense, I buy things that will last for ages – a 50mm Canon lens, a leather bag, and a necklace were my big buys this month. They’ll still be here ten years down the line.

Looking forward to: More summer, more sunlight, my trip to Crete, and 3 weeks off work in July. I can’t remember the last time I had a three week holiday. It’s been years.

Favorite food: Still chomping down those green salads and olive bread, now with added tzatziki.  I’ve also re-discovered my love for gelato ice cream ;)

Pampering: Because of my vicious allergies, I’m careful around perfumes this time of year. The solution? Papaya-scented body wash and body butter from The Body Shop, which is far more gentle. Yum! (It also allows Marius to call me Maja Papaya. Added bonus.)

Favorite workout: Same as last month, spinning and core muscle training. It has definitely had the desired effect! There’s muscle in there somewhere!

Favorite TV-show: I’m currently watching season 2 of Project Runway, as I seem to have skipped that one. Oh, and “The girls of Hedsor Hall“, it’s my guilty pleasure TV-show of the month.

Favorite thing: I’m going to have to say Google Calendar, because it has made my social life SO much more manageable. I have a really odd work schedule that changes from week to week, but I just plot everything in there and voilà, the boyfriend and the best friend knows exactly when I’m free!

Favorite persons: You know, I don’t like this part of the summary, because I always want to mention everyone I know.

Discoveries: I can paint my nails again! Why is this a big deal, you ask? Because my hands used to hate nail polish and my skin would really act up, so I haven’t been able to paint my nails for years now. I’m still a bit worried I might react to the nail polish remover though. Time will tell. I do love my sparkly french manicure!

Best buy: Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens, leather bag, and my anatomical heart necklace.

Worst buy: I spend way too much money of food, I need to learn to plan meals better :)

Wish list: Blank, for now. I must seem like the world’s most materialistic person.

Favorite blog: Sleep talking man. I haven’t laughed this much since I discovered hyperbole and a half! :)

Blog annoyance: None. You’re all so sweet and nice and I never get any nasty comments. No complaints here!

Tips for myself: I’ll keep writing it, maybe it’ll sink in one of these days – Stop. Buying. Stuff. Ugh. I don’t make nearly enough money to keep this up! Also, I’d like to blog more often, I’ll see what I can do about that one.

All in all: May has been a great month. No more heavy knits and snow, and I wear shorts far more often than I wear jeans. I’ve even managed to get slightly sunburned!

How was your May? Do you have any fun things planned for June? :)

Blog review/interview

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

The lovely Kayso posted a great review of my blog yesterday along with a few questions that she asked a while back. She’s so sweet, the post really made me smile. Head over here to read it (in Norwegian)! I am, as the English would say, well chuffed :)

That’s her! She’s such a sweetheart.

It’s been a busy few days for me, but I think it might be starting to slow down now. It’s my own fault really, for making 2-hour workout plans. Two hours! What can I say, the recent news of being treated to a trip abroad made a bit more obsessed motivated to work on the “bikini body”. Ugh, I hate that expression, like you need a certain level of fitness to wear a bikini. And here I am, reinforcing that view by doing 2-hour workouts. Yes, I do see the irony! However, I also see some muscle-tone in there waiting to poke out, so I guess I’ll just be a walking contradiction this summer. It’s the new black, really.

Uh, where was I. Yes! I called the Mulberry store today, and there seems to be a real shortage of Alexa bags in brown (or “Oak”, as the Mulberries like to call it). So I might have to wait an extra week. Or two weeks. Or three. Who knows? They had received a shipment of black Alexas, and I thought for a moment about switching, but no. I like to oak too much, and I keep imagining how beautifully worn the leather will be in 5-10 years time. So oak it is!

But there’s one thing that was in store, and that’s my new cell phone! It’s on it’s way as we speak, and I can’t wait to get my grabby hands on it, a brand new HTC Desire. My current phone dies several times a day now, so this will be a welcome upgrade. I also got a big fat discount through my job, so it won’t hurt my bank balance at all. Happy faces all around!

Outfit time. I chose to wear my “sausage jeans” today. I ordered them from topshop.com a few weeks back, and they are unbelievably tight. Not as in the wrong size, but as in made to be the skinniest jeans you ever owned. I struggle to get them over my heel! However, I think they’re wearable as long as there’s a long top involved. In the future I’ll just steer away from super-skinny jeans altogether. Straight leg or bootcut all the way. Or really, who am I fooling. SKIRTS!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go wax my mustache.

March Summary

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

I feel like it was just the other day that I wrote a summary post for February, and here we go writing a new one for March! What is this, time isn’t supposed to move this fast, is it? Oh well, let’s get on with it:

(dun dun dun!)

Happiest thing that happened: My sister came to visit us at our new place! Nothing beats a bit of sisterly bonding, combined with takeout and movies of course.

Worst thing that happened: Not remembering to take out the trash on pickup-day was pretty awful. Our hallway stank. (I can’t believe how fortunate I am to have that be the worst thing to happen to me for a whole month!) I also had a tooth surgically removed (THREE STITCHES!), but that wasn’t at all as terrible as I thought it would be.

Biggest annoyance: Forgetting to buy breakfast foods. Learning to eat breakfast every day was one of my new years resolutions! Oh and my phone, who dies on me at least three times a day.

Looking forward to: Still looking forward to spring, which never seems to get here. But, I did wake up with a stuffy nose this morning, so I haven’t lost hope yet!

Favorite food: Marius made me a chicken breast wrapped in bacon the other day. Need I say more?

Pampering: I bought one of those really girly shower sponge loofah exfoliation things. I may be pale as a ghost, but I’m as soft as a lamb!

Favorite workout: I’m still rooting for the elliptical. I also did yoga again for the first time in ages, I had forgot how exhausting it is :)

Favorite TV-show: Project Runway! And America’s Next Top Model for the luls. Oh, Tyra. To have an ego as big as yours. (For you fans: Check out Fourfour’s weekly recaps!)

Favorite thing: Mr. Filofax, of course.

Favorite persons: Marius, for putting up with my going on for ever and ever about buying a poodle, even though I know perfectly well that we can’t get one for at least a year.  Okay, maybe two years.

Discoveries: My alter ego, Super Spend Woman. Christ almighty. I’ve officially ruined any good money-karma that I built up during my two months of non-shopping.

Best buy: Pretty, comfortable and cute leather shoes at 50% off!

Worst buy: I don’t think I did any.. Just too many good ones. Just because something is pretty, doesn’t mean I have to own it!

Wish list: Ugh, don’t get me started. Super Spend Woman might hear me.

Favorite blog: Regretsy

Blog annoyance: I think all the bloggers I know have been experiencing comment-droughts lately.. :)

Tips for myself: Stop. Buying. So. Much. Stuff. Seriously. Despite what you may think, you’re not made of money!

All in all: Good month. Cold month. Started working out again, got a visit from my sister, still loving the new apartment, not yet sick of the pigeons who like to watch us sleep!

Easter holiday style

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

My oh my, aren’t we being funny today. Pale really is the new tan you guys, and over sized hoodies combined with pajama bottoms are totally the new black! And honey, makeup and hair brushes are so last season.

Oh, and I know someone who knows a girl who’s cousin said that she totally knows someone who overheard Karl Lagerfeld saying that all his models will be making goofy expressions on the catwalk this fall. Pinky swear!

In other news,

This is what the Norwegian countryside looks like these days. Not spring-like quite yet, but we’re getting there!

Also, I saw a horse…

My Alexa

And I re-discovered polyvore :)

Shoes and proposals

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Today I looked like this. Not a very exciting day, except – EXCEPT – that a costumer proposed to me over the phone. Never talked to the guy before, but apparently, he wanted to marry me. Three cheers for great costumer service, I guess! I told him I had a boyfriend, which made the man flustered enough to hang up.

Proposal-man, if you’re reading this:

You’re not missing out on much. Oh man, I love gifs, don’t you?

In other news, I work this Saturday so I’m looking at a one-day weekend. I’m going to squeeze as much movie-watching, face-stuffing and nail-polishing into that Sunday as I possibly can. We’re looking at a tight schedule of carefully planned slacking!
