Monday paranoia

Monday, July 19th, 2010

I have discovered a curious side-effect after I made a fan-page for this blog on facebook – I’ve become really self-conscious! I’ve never really been self-conscious when it comes to blogging before, so this sort of hit me by surprise. Now, I’ve been doing some self-analysation here, so bear with me for a second: I’ve got a live feed of my blog in LinkedIn. No problem here, as this is for former, current and future employers. The blog might get me a job some day, who knows, so this is fine. I also have a live feed from my blog on Twitter, no problem here either. My twitter followers are usually interesting strangers – perfectly fine, I don’t care if a stranger reads my blog the wrong way, after all! So, summary: LinkedIn fine, Twitter fine. So why is facebook scary? My friends already read the blog, my family already reads it, so who’s the scary last group? Colleagues. People who sort-of kind-of know who you are, but don’t really know you. Oh yes, I have crystallized the one sentence that is making me anxious over this whole fan-group business: “You know, that girl up on 5th, the one who made a fan-group for herself and posts photos of herself online all the time

Oh yeah, that’s the one. I’m being ridiculous, I know I am! Everyone I work with are perfectly nice! Pah, let’s just face it, I’m one paranoid puppy. The facebook fanpage stays.

In other news, I’ve got candy-colored nails and there are four days left until I leave Norway behind. I want a fast-forward button, dammit!

(“Oh yeah, you know, that girl who posts photos of her nails.” Oh shush, I know it’s all in my head ;) )

Banished to the book shelf

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Happy Friday-day everyone! This day could really not crawl by fast enough, but work ended eventually and I got to plant by butt firmly in the sofa corner with a bottle of nail polish. Hey now, don’t judge, we all have our vices – I hardly ever go out, so I get polishes instead. My vanity AND my liver thanks me for than one! Marius and I are going to spend the night stuffing our faces and watching a movie, as soon as we can decide on which one to pick. We’re stuck between Watchmen and Star Trek right now, but who knows where we’ll end up. Marius hung up two brand new shelves from Ikea above his desk the other day, and I asked him if they’d become our new DVD shelves. “No”, he replied. “Those are for the Blurays only”. See what I’ve got to deal with? I’m not allowed to bring home DVDs anymore! And the DVDs we already own are banished to the book shelf.  I think I might smuggle them over to the Bluray-shelves when he looks the other way.

Ok, polish time! The one I got yesterday was IsaDora’s #700 “Bel Air Blue”, and I’ve got all kinds of love for it, although it’s a bit too goopy for my taste. I need to get myself some nail polish thinner.

Ok, the boyfriend is showing signs of movie-readiness now, so I have to press publish. Enjoy your Friday! :)

P.S: I made a fan page on facebook! Clicky if you want to spread the love!

Nail envy

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

There’s probably no surprise to you at all that I’m the vainest person I know. Really, I could rack my brain for days, and no-one else I know would be able to top me. Me putting on eye liner before I go to the gym is a running joke among my colleagues. And if you’ve been reading my blog for the past few weeks, you might have picked up on my growing nail polish obsession. It’s turning into a surprisingly expensive obsession, let me tell you, especially since I discovered O.P.I nail polishes (plus all those other little bits and bobs that you really really want need to keep around). So I made it the theme of day 13 of my 365 day photo project! Are you feeling my hand modeling skills?

Now, let me walk you through this, left to right:

1: Nfu-Oh’s Cuticle remover. This makes gunky, gnarly and dry cuticles – well – disappear! Miss Airam already wrote a great post about this one, so I’ll hand you over to her if you want to know more about it.

2: O.P.I Nail Envy Nail Strengthener for sensitive and peeling nails. My nails just don’t chip at all when I use this one. It’s perfection!

3: O.P.I Top Coat. Shiny Goodness.

4: Gosh #540 “Ocean”. The color of the day.

Now, I’m not going to pretend I’m some sort of expert here – Let’s be honest, I’m the newbiest newb that ever newbed – but I do know where to send you if you want to learn how to do a great manicure.

First of all: Nails for dummies. Feeling a bit more advanced? How to make your manicure last. Fretting about getting the nail shape wrong? This is how you get it right.

I’d add more links, but come on. They’re nails, not brain surgery. You can figure it out from here. Have fun! ;)

P.S: I cannot recommend glass nail files enough. They make such a difference. Mine has little Swarovski crystals on it, because I’m fancy.

New tricks

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

I learned a new trick today – how to airbrush skin! Now, I’m not going to say that I did it very well, but it’s one of my first tries so shut it. I’ve never been one for the mannequin look, so I’ve steered clear of retouching outside of the pimple-removal, dark-circle-dampening kind, but I figured it must be a nice trick to have up one’s digital sleeve, right?

I made you a little gif, because I’m cool like that.

Three more days now before I start my Project 365. I think this might turn out to be a ton of fun, and very educational as well. I hope I’ll come out the other end as a much better photographer! :)

Materialism post

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

Fine, fine, here you go!

I wrote “second hanf” on purpose.

… and I like shoes.

I thought I had made an amazing vintage polka dot find with that skirt up on the top left. Turns out, the tag said “H&M”. Oh well, second hand is second hand! The Green cardigan has the cutest little sparkly buttons that could fall out any second, so I have to find a needle and thread pronto. As long as all the buttons were intact, it didn’t bother me. It’s a 5 minute fix, after all!

White, black and stripes to the bottom right there were some much needed basics, and I think I will be able to wear the striped body with pretty much every skirt I own. Treasure! I’m going to look all school girl-y in fall in my plaid flats, and my shoe collection had been sorely missing a pair of black strappy heels.

You have now reached the end of my self-justification post. I’m going to go sit in the shower and rock back and forth now. Crap.
